Flambeau hospital visitor guidelines

We continue to focus on efforts to protect patients, visitors and staff as concerns about the spread of COVID-19 continue. We will continue to temporarily prohibit visitors from entering Flambeau Hospital until further notice.

This step is being undertaken to keep patients, their loved ones, and our staff safe by limiting the potential to spread COVID-19 within our facilities.

These temporary visitor restrictions apply to visitation for the hospital.

Visitors are any additional person coming with a patient to a clinic appointment or visiting a patient while in the hospital.

There are exceptions and situations where adult visitors may be allowed, including:

  • Inpatient Pediatric: 2 adult visitors for the duration of the stay (the same two adults may visit during the patient’s hospitalization)
  • OB patients: 1 visitor/support person during ultrasounds
  • Patients where a caregiver is essential to their care (such as a patient with altered mental status, developmental delay or physical disability requiring assistance with medical care or activities of daily living)
  • Patients who have power of attorney or court-appointed guardians
  • Patients who have the potential for a sudden status change:
    • Examples may include surgery or trauma.
    • Visitors may be allowed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Patients who are at end of life. These patients and families will be supported on a case-by-case basis with the goal of creating an emotional support network, while keeping patients and visitors safe.

Note: Exceptions are made by leaders with a goal of providing safe care for patients, while balancing emotional and other support needs. Please know that visitors will not be allowed for patients with pending or positive COVID-19 test, unless extenuating circumstances apply and guidance can be given.

If I am approved to visit, are there special rules that I must follow?

  • All visitors should be free of illness or symptoms, and at least 18 years old.
  • Visitors should anticipate being screened for symptoms of illness.
  • Visitors should not remove any supplies or equipment from Flambeau Hospital.
  • Visitors should limit the personal items they bring into the facility. This will reduce the number of unwanted germs that will go home with the visitor.
  • Visitors should plan to stay in the patient's room for the duration of the visit. They should not be in communal spaces, like lobbies, the cafeteria or wandering in hallways.
  • Visitors must wash hands or use hand sanitizer every time they enter or exit a patient room or exam room.
  • At this time, all patients and visitors are required to wear a mask in Health System facilities.

Are children able to visit?

Children (those under the age of 18) are not able to visit at Health System locations while these restrictions are in place. If you will be attending a medical appointment at a clinic or have an exception where you may be visiting a patient in the hospital, please arrange to have your child cared for outside of the Health System.

May I send flowers, food or other gifts to my loved one who is hospitalized?

To help limit the number of people in our buildings, we ask that flowers, food or other items not be delivered to patients in the hospital.

Stay Connected

We understand and respect the importance of the relationships patients have with their loved ones. As such, we encourage you to stay connected virtually via phone, tablet or computer. You may bring a personal device to your appointment or hospital stay to remain connected with family or caregivers.

If your provider is comfortable, at the conclusion of the appointment or during a key component of the hospital stay, you may use the device to make a phone call to another person that you wish to hear and be involved with the plan of care for your appointment or hospital stay. While you may use your device to connect with another person who can listen in and ask questions during your time with the provider, you should not use the device to record or take video. It is only used to stay connected with others in your personal life and to share your care plan with them.

Visiting hours

Those considered family by the patient are generally welcome to visit any time. Number of visitors and duration may vary based on patient needs.

We encourage friends to visit between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

General visitor guidelines

Flambeau Hospital reserves the right to restrict visiting if it is determined counterproductive to patient care.

When visitors are allowed, we may ask them to leave during tests or treatments.

Check with the nurse's station when bringing gifts of food or drink.

Do not bring products containing latex.

Waiting areas

Public waiting areas are located throughout Flambeau Hospital.

Visit the nurse's station or ask a member of the care team which location is best for the patient you are visiting.

Flambeau Hospital's cafeteria is open daily:

  • Lunch: 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
  • Dinner: 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.

Vending machines are available in the front lobby, cafeteria and near the nurse's station.
