WHEN DOES THE PROGRAM START AND END?
The program begins the fourth Monday in August and lasts 51 weeks through August of the following year.
HOW IS THE PROGRAM STRUCTURED?
Clinical rotations take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and begin anywhere from 6:30-8:30 a.m. During this time students apply their didactic knowledge by clinically working with patients and equipment. Didactic lectures are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. for approximately the first nine months after which the students will be working clinically full-time fine-tuning their technical skills. Students will gradually be given more and more responsibility as the year goes on and eventually perform patient procedures independently and with confidence.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AS A STUDENT?
Students are expected to be at the institution eight hours a day five days a week. There will be multiple quizzes followed by section finals throughout the year for each topic that is covered. You will solo and be signed off on most of the clinical procedures in our department allowing you to gain confidence and independence throughout the year. You will have the opportunity to observe in other departments (CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Radiation Therapy, and Echocardiography)as well as certain types of surgeries. There are nuclear medicine related meetings in the area along with the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging National Meeting, which is held during the month of June, that the you will have a chance to attend.
HOW MUCH TIME OFF DO I GET?
You will be given six holidays (Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day, Memorial Day, and July 4th), as well as the day after Thanksgiving off. You will be granted 10 days off to use for vacation, sick time, or personal time. An additional three days off are allocated for interviews.
WHAT DO I WEAR?
You are expected to dress and carry yourself as a professional. Dress casual or scrubs are acceptable. Jeans, T-shirts, and sweatshirts are not acceptable attire. Scrubs and lab coats will be provided by the hospital.
IS HOUSING PROVIDED?
Housing is the responsibility of the student. Most students contact fellow students and share apartments.
DO I GET PAID FOR THE INTERNSHIP?
There is no stipend or form of payment given to students during their internship. In fact, you pay us.
HOW MUCH IS TUITION?
Students applying the program towards a baccalaureate degree pay full undergraduate tuition to the university. Students receiving only a certificate pay a program fee to Marshfield Clinic. Contact the Program Director for specifics.
