Residents can rely on their attendings in helping them learn. Our faculty members choose to include teaching as part of their job. That is how we get the most out of our staff, and we believe the arrangement benefits residents most. Residents receive frequent one-on-one attention from attending faculty, allowing them to draw on their experience and expertise.
One attending physician expressed the sentiments of many: "I like to teach because it allows me to keep up with new innovative research and medical changes, along with changes in modern technology. The challenge of balancing teaching and practice responsibilities would make it easy for me not to teach if I didn't like being around the residents." He added that the residency program was a major factor in drawing him to practice at Marshfield Clinic.
