“I love the challenge of honing in on the
problem, correcting it and then helping
the patient successfully return to activity
with the least disruption possible.”
Dr. William D. McCormick is an orthopedic surgeon who treats injuries to the shoulder and elbow and performs hip arthroscopy.
Dr. McCormick grew up near
Windsor, Ontario with his parents,
who were an engineer and a physical
therapist. After looking carefully at
molecular biology, Dr. McCormick
committed to orthopedic surgery
while in medical school. His residency
cemented his interest in sports medicine
and shoulder and elbow surgery.
“I was blessed with many opportunities,
but kept returning to orthopedics,” said
Dr. McCormick. “It offers the perfect
balance of technical and academic
challenges in addition to the reward
of seeing immediate improvements in
function and quality of life.”
“I hope that my patients feel I care for them as a person, and help them understand the problem in order to make decisions about their care,” he said.
Dr. McCormick earned his medical degree at University of Western Ontario medical school in London, Canada and completed an orthopedic surgery residency at University of Ottawa. He has completed a sports fellowship in Vancouver, British Columbia and a shoulder/elbow fellowship in Auckland, New Zealand.
When he’s not practicing medicine, Dr. McCormick is working to improve medical education. He invented and co-developed the Arthrobox (trademarked Arthrex), a surgical skills trainer. He also enjoys biking and skiing with his wife and three young girls.
