Mary Davis has never strayed too far from northwest Wisconsin. She grew up in Hayward where she developed passions for swimming and running. She earned her undergraduate degree from UW Eau Claire some two hours away. Later, she received her master's degree in nursing from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth and predictably moved back to Hayward to build her medical practice among friends and neighbors.
"Hayward is such a welcoming community, not only for summer visitors but for lifelong residents like me," she says. "My family and friends are here, my memories are here, and I wouldn't want to practice medicine anywhere else."
Davis, whose husband also hails from Hayward, jumped at the chance to take a job with the Marshfield Clinic Hayward Center when the opportunity arose in the summer of 2012. "I chose Marshfield Clinic because of its well known commitment to providing quality health care in rural parts of northern Wisconsin."
She previously worked for Essentia Health/Duluth Clinic system in Hayward for five years and is excited to be part of the 5,000 square foot Hayward Center that has access to dozens of specialists in cancer, heart, orthopedics and diabetes.
Davis's two grown daughters Rachel and Anna have followed her into the medical profession. "I love what I do. I get great satisfaction in knowing I helped another in need. My favorite quote for life is "do unto others as you would like done unto you".
