As a cardiologist, Dr. Sudhakar Girotra focuses mainly on structural heart disease, including patients who need heart valves implanted.
He performs MitraClip procedures for patients with mitral valve regurgitation, a condition where blood leaks backward from the heart's left ventricle into the left atrium.
Starting his career as a pathologist and then later choosing to practice in the field of cardiology, Dr. Girotra has a diverse medical background that gives him broad knowledge and experience and deep expertise.
"I find the combination of the variety of the work and interacting with patients very rewarding," he said.
Dr. Girotra attended medical school at Kasturba Medical College in India. He completed a residency in clinical pathology at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut and a residency in internal medicine at Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix. He also completed a cardiology fellowship while at Banner University Medical Center. He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, nuclear cardiology and vascular medicine.
His mom, dad and two sisters live in India and his parents like to travel to the United States to visit. In his free time, Dr. Girotra likes to ride motorcycles and dirt bikes. He also enjoys horseback riding and hiking.
