“I have the opportunity to connect with my patients and then watch them recover."
Dr. Stephanie Carr is a surgeon specializing in colorectal surgery, taking on small and large operations alike. She sees patients who have issues relating to colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, hemorrhoids, anal fissures, anal fistulas and fecal incontinence. Dr. Carr performs colonoscopies for colon and rectal cancer screening.
Dr. Carr's interest in medicine began at a young age, when a family member suffered from a chronic illness. She says her health care philosophy is treating patients as though they are family, spending time helping patients understand every part of their care plan. Her favorite part of the job is when she can help a patient overcome a cancer diagnosis.
Patients are provided advanced care thanks to new technology, which Dr. Carr uses in most of her rectal cancer operations. Using the DaVinci robotic system, she performs minimally invasive surgeries that can result in smaller incisions, quicker recovery and shorter hospitalizations.
“I enjoy watching patients recover from procedures and operations so that they can continue their lives," Dr. Carr said.
Dr. Carr earned her doctorate of osteopathic medicine at Kansas City University and completed her general surgery residency at Marshfield Clinic Health System. Additionally, she's completed a minimally invasive colorectal surgery fellowship at Swedish in Seattle.
In her spare time, Dr. Carr enjoys hiking, skiing, reading books and spending time with her husband and their dog.
