“I want to be able to provide compassionate care and help guide patients through a challenging experience.”
As a certified family nurse practitioner with Cancer Care & Research, Shannon Jahn helps people with symptomatic issues related to cancer treatments, the disease itself or many secondary diagnoses.
Caring for others is the only thing she has ever wanted to do. It was a natural fit with her other interest in understanding how the body systems work so that medication, treatments and therapies can help patients with health challenges.
“I feel a great sense of satisfaction in being able to help someone feel better whether physically, mentally or spiritually,” Shannon said. “I believe that communicating with the patient, educating them and listening to what they have to say are important steps to create a strong patient-provider relationship.”
With a history in hospice, she has gained valuable insight from patients that are facing serious and even terminal health conditions.
“They are truly the strongest people I have ever met and being able to help these patients and their loved ones on a daily basis drives me to continue to be the most competent and compassionate provider possible,” Shannon said.
Shannon received her master’s degree in nursing from Purdue University Global in Indiana.
She enjoys spending time with her two daughters, reading, completing crossword puzzles, kayaking, hiking and traveling.
