Dr. Shameem Kunhammed is passionate about using
his expertise as a surgeon to help people
return to a healthy life.
As a vascular surgeon, he specializes in the
diagnosis, treatment and management of
conditions affecting arteries and veins of
the neck, chest, abdomen and extremities
through both open operations and less
invasive endovascular approaches.
"I am especially skilled in cutting-edge
technology and the latest techniques
associated with endovascular procedures,”
Dr. Kunhammed said.
These minimally
invasive techniques include endovascular
or fenestrated repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms, balloon angioplasty and stenting in peripheral blood vessels. He has a special interest in endovascular treatment of aortic disease.
“I try to treat each patient as if they were my own kin, my own mother or father,” he said. “They are more than just a patient – these are people I relate to very closely. I understand how debilitating vascular disease is.”
In his practice, he derives the most satisfaction from sending his patients home after a successful surgery. And, after working in five states, he noted that, “I have never seen such thankful, appreciative people as I have in Marshfield.”
Dr. Kunhammed grew up in Kerala, a tropical coast state in India. After earning his medical degree in India, he completed an internship at Metropolitan Group of Hospitals, Chicago, a surgical residency at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital, Bronx, N.Y., and a vascular surgery fellowship at St. Louis University Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.
He and his wife, Roopa, have two sons. In his free time, he enjoys biking, fishing, playing with his sons and listening to National Public Radio.
