“Spending time with and carefully listening to my patients is important to me."
As a family medicine nurse practitioner, Sara Smith, D.N.P., cares for patients with chronic health issues, non-life threatening injuries or illnesses, and for routine well visits.
“Taking the time to get to know my patients, carefully listening to their concerns, and developing a plan that works for my patients and their families are the most essential components of practicing medicine," Smith said.
Smith started her career as a pediatric nurse in Janesville. She then relocated to northcentral Wisconsin and worked alongside Marshfield Clinic Health System providers as a labor, delivery and level II nursery nurse for the past 20 years.
“Throughout my career, I have managed many unique situations that have helped me to handle high-pressure situations with ease," she said. “Family medicine allows me to care for patients of all ages with a diverse array of health care considerations."
It is particularly important to Smith to develop a plan that works for the entire family. “I am committed to ensuring that my patient's needs are met before they leave the clinic," she said.
Smith is board-certified as a family nurse practitioner. She received her doctoral degree in nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
Smith has two adult sons and spends most of her free time golfing, biking or skiing.
