Even when Dr. Rebecca Blonsky was a child, she knew she wanted to be a doctor. Her dad is a nephrologist and her mom was a nurse, so medicine was a clear path for her. Dr. Blonsky initially wanted to be a pathologist but after medical school, she developed an interest in internal medicine.
“I really like taking care of patients and developing a relationship with them during their long-term care,” she said.
Dr. Blonsky can see any patient who has kidney disease, blood or protein in their urine, hypertension or concerns about electrolytes. She also treats patients before and after kidney transplants.
“I strive to get my patients’ chronic diseases under control by figuring out the cause and providing the appropriate treatment,” she said.
Dr. Blonsky grew up in upstate New York, just near the border of Canada. In high school, her family moved to Wausau where she graduated from Wausau East. She earned her medical degree at American University of Caribbean Sint Maarten, Netherlands Antilles. She then completed her internship and residency at Marshfield Medical Center, formerly St. Joseph’s Hospital, and had her fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dr. Blonsky met her husband during her residency in Marshfield. He is an engineer in Stevens Point, and she was glad to find an opportunity in nephrology at Marshfield Clinic Health System.
Outside of work, she enjoys running and CrossFit, as well as biking with her husband. The couple loves to be outside when the weather is nice. She and her husband have one daughter.
