General Surgeon Philip Kramer, MD, understands that the care he provides his patients goes far beyond just the patient.
“Every patient is somebody's family member," said Philip. “I always remember my patient care impacts more than just the patient."
During high school and college, Philip worked construction and discovered a love for working with his hands. This love stuck with him throughout college and medical school. He chose to go into general surgery as it allowed him to continue working with his hands.
“Surgery seemed like the perfect meeting ground between medicine and manual labor," Philip said. “Now I still use my hands to do things, and help people in the process."
Philip now practices in general surgery at Marshfield Medical Center-Rice Lake, and provides outreach to Ladysmith. He sees patients with a variety of issues such as hernias, colon, breast and skin cancers.
“I really focus on providing the right plan at the right time," said Philip.
He has always enjoyed the outdoors and especially camping, hiking and canoeing in northern Wisconsin. That is what led him to the area and Marshfield Clinic Health System.
“I really like MCHS and what it stands for," Philip said. “It's a good group of people."
Philip is married with four children. He still enjoys the outdoors – hunting, fishing and camping – as well as sports and, in the past, working with pottery and ceramics.
