“I help patients understand their
condition and treatment options so they
can better manage their health.”
“Endocrinology evaluates and manages hormonal disorders,” Dr. Michael Sheehan said. “Most often, that means diabetes, though thyroid adrenal and pituitary disorders are also common. It’s a fascinating field because tiny amounts of hormones in the blood can have far reaching effects throughout the body. Finding and treating the root cause of those effects can make a real difference in someone’s life.”
Dr. Sheehan likes to see a wide variety of patients, rather than focusing on one narrow area within endocrinology.
“Having a broad perspective can benefit the patient during diagnosis and planning treatment,” he said. “All endocrinologists have internal medicine training, and I think to be a good endocrinologist you also need to be a good internist.”
A proponent of healthy lifestyles, Dr. Sheehan is a long-distance runner. He’s run several marathons including the famous Boston Marathon. He and his wife have four adult daughters.
Dr. Sheehan is board certified in endocrinology. He earned his medical degree at the Mayo Medical School - College of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine at University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics and was fellowship-trained in endocrinology at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine.
