As a general surgeon, Dr. Michael Schmidt does a wide variety of surgical procedures to solve medical issues for his patients including hernia repairs and gallbladder surgery.
He also performs abdomen, breast, colon/bowel, skin and thyroid procedures. Dr. Schmidt performs open operations, laparoscopic procedures and endoscopy. He also has special interests in thyroid and breast surgery.
"The majority of what I do is actually in an outpatient setting," he explains. "Medicine, surgery in particular, has been moving more and more toward minimally invasive approaches. The advantages to patients are quicker recovery times and little to no time in the hospital. Most hernia, gall bladder, appendicitis and the majority of planned elective surgeries, for example, are now done on an outpatient basis."
Dr. Schmidt is a board-certified surgeon. He earned his medical degree at Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and completed his residency at the University of Toledo Medical Center, Ohio. Dr. Schmidt is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Schmidt, a native of Milwaukee, is happy to raise his family in central Wisconsin and be in his home state. Outside his practice, Dr. Schmidt enjoys outdoor activities like camping, jogging, hiking, cooking and winter sports like snowshoeing and downhill skiing.
