“Every patient and I
are a team, and my job is to support them to obtain their health goals.”
Melissa Burkhart is a family nurse practitioner who educates her patients to make positive changes in their health. That education comes in a variety of forms, from preventative health to chronic disease management.
“I enjoy caring for people of all ages and backgrounds," said Burkhart. “Being a family nurse practitioner allows me to treat the patient as a whole, as well as guide their care for their personal health goals."
Burkhart's medical career started as a certified nursing assistant. From there, she knew she wanted to pursue higher education and help patients in need, especially in rural areas. Burkhart previously worked as a long-term care practitioner with Marshfield Clinic Health System. Throughout all her time in medicine, her focus has been on collaboration and trust.
“I truly listen to my patients, involving them in their care decisions to find what works best for them," said Burkhart. “As we move forward together, one of my goals is to always follow through on what I told the patient I would do to help."
Burkhart is married and has two sons. In her spare time, she enjoys being with family and friends, kayaking, traveling, reading and singing.
