“My goal is to have patients understand more about their eyes and vision by the end of their appointment."
Dr. Matthew Johnson is an optometrist dedicated to serving the communities of Minocqua and Park Falls within the Marshfield Clinic Health System. He brings a wealth of experience to address various visual concerns and chronic conditions.
Inspired by the interpersonal connection of optometry and following in his uncle's footsteps, Dr. Paul Johnson, a respected optometrist in Rhinelander, Dr. Johnson chose a path aligned with his passion for patient care.
"I want patients to feel empowered and informed about their condition and treatment," he said. "Patients should be partners in management and understand what we are doing and why we recommend a particular treatment."
Beyond the prescribing of vision correction, Dr. Johnson's expertise extends to monitoring chronic conditions like cataracts, diabetes, glaucoma and macular degeneration.
Drawn to Marshfield Medical Center-Minocqua, Dr. Johnson appreciates its non-profit status, the Marshfield Clinic Health System Foundation, and the emphasis on health equity, diversity, and inclusion. As a Wisconsin native, he values the center's long-standing reputation for delivering quality care in a rural setting.
Dr. Johnson is actively involved in theology and ministry outside his professional life. He is interested in year-round biking, hiking, and reading. At home, he shares his life with his wife, Allie, an English instructor at Nicolet College in Rhinelander.
