Dr. Mahmoud Ahmed brings 35 years of experience as a psychiatrist to his role with Marshfield Clinic Health System. In that role, he works with hospitalized patients who have or develop psychiatric needs during their inpatient stay.
Because he consults on any hospitalized patient who may have a psychiatric needs, Dr. Ahmed has experience working with virtually every mental health diagnosis.
“People come to the hospital because they have serious and sometimes life threatening issues," Dr. Ahmed said. “A patient may be dealing with heart failure and depression, for instance. These patients are desperately in need of help to relieve their physical and mental pain, and it gives me deep satisfaction to help my patients to overcome their difficulties"
Dr. Ahmed prides himself on seeing each patient as a unique person with very unique needs.
“There is no one-size-fits-all approach for patients, even patients with the same diagnosis," he said. “Each patient we see deserves to be seen as a unique individual, and I have to learn about my patient from my patient."
Dr. Ahmed earned his medical degree from Cairo University Medical School in Egypt. He completed his residency is psychiatry at Winnebago Mental Health Institute in Wisconsin. He served in the U.S. Navy as the NATO Psychiatrist in Kandahar, Afghanistan, from 2014 to 2015. He attained the rank of U.S. Navy Commander.
When he is not practicing medicine, Dr. Ahmed enjoys playing with his grandson and spending time with his family. He also enjoys reading and is always on the lookout for new hobbies.
