“I love working with newborns and young families, and watching the children grow.”
When Dr. Kathryn Schaus heard that Hayward needed a pediatrician, she jumped at the chance.
“My husband Greg and I both love this area and being in the outdoors," she said.
Dr. Schaus earned her medical degree at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine & Public Health in Madison. As a medical student, she did a rotation at Marshfield Clinic, which confirmed that it was a highly respected organization that had opportunities for physicians wanting to practice in smaller and more rural communities.
“It's comforting to know that, as a primary care provider, advanced specialty care is available when needed," she said.
She completed a residency in pediatrics at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor and is board-certified.
Dr. Schaus also has three grown children of her own, who she credited with making her a better pediatrician.
She was a pediatrician for 26 years in Chippewa Falls and later transferred to the Hayward Center.
“I love children, of course. I've always felt comfortable with them," she said. “I also think I have a good rapport with parents."
Dr. Schaus and her husband, Greg Pautsch, enjoy biking, skiing, running and using the famous nearby Birkie Trail year-round.
