Dr. Joseph Bodet is an interventional cardiologist who performs procedures to correct physical abnormalities in the heart such as coronary artery disease.
A major part of his work involves stopping heart attacks and preventing impending heart attacks.
He has a thirst for knowledge, spending nearly two hours reading each morning before work. He brings that scholarly approach to taking care of patients as an interventional cardiologist.
“I enjoy the mix of the technology we use and the problem solving required in interventional cardiology,” Dr. Bodet said. “My work is basically problem solving as it relates to the improvement, quality and duration of human life.”
His father was a physician, and his dad’s experience influenced Dr. Bodet to enter the field of medicine.
“I saw the value of being a physician, what doctors are able to do for people,” Dr. Bodet said. “I was also always very scientifically oriented, so it was a natural choice for me.”
Dr. Bodet feels the most important element of patient care is clear communication.
“That requires a dialogue between me and my patients. I want to know patients’ wishes and goals, so I can provide them with the information they need,” Dr. Bodet said.
Dr. Bodet earned his medical degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at St. Louis University Hospitals. There, he also completed fellowships in cardiovascular medicine and interventional cardiology.
Dr. Bodet is interested in computer programming and even developed a program for defibrillator monitoring. He enjoys spending time with his family and loves reading about science, business and philosophy, among other topics. He is married with five children.
