“I
enjoy making long-term connections with my patients as I see them throughout
their lifespan.”
Dr. Joseph Edmund is a fellowship-trained physician specializing in oncology and hematology. He sees adult patients affected by cancer or blood disorders.
Dr. Edmund's connection to cancer is personal. He learned at a young age how a cancer diagnosis can affect a person's entire family.
“One of my grandmothers passed away from breast cancer and one from ovarian cancer. Cancer was spoken about in my family as an incurable disease," Dr. Edmund said. “Working at a medical school in India, I got to know cancer patients very well and realized how much each of them went through during their cancer journey."
While studying at St. John's Medical College in Bangalore, India, Dr. Edmund was responsible for administering the chemotherapy his patients needed. Those personal connections created the framework for his philosophy of care.
“My patients are my family," Dr. Edmund said. “I emphasize honesty with them. I promise to do everything I can to support their treatment choices and be open and compassionate about the options."
After receiving his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree in India, Dr. Edmund completed his internal medicine residency at University of Central Florida in Orlando. Additionally he completed his hematology and oncology fellowship at Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence, Rhode Island.
Dr. Edmund is passionate about the importance of continuing education, participation in research and writing articles related to cancer care and research. During his education he has engaged in authoring and co-authoring numerous medical articles.
In his spare time, Dr. Edmund enjoys kayaking, hiking, watching movies and spending time with his wife who is also in the medical field.
