An interest in science and a commitment to helping others drew Dr. Frank MacDonald to the field of medicine.
“The ability to apply scientific knowledge to improve health outcomes, alleviate suffering and contribute to the well-being of individuals and communities has always been a compelling aspect of the medical profession for me," he said. “The continuous learning and challenges presented by medicine fuel my intellectual curiosity and passion for lifelong learning."
He chose family medicine for its holistic approach to care.
“The diversity of medical issues in family medicine provides a challenging and fulfilling variety in practice, ensuring no two days are alike. Additionally, the opportunity to build long-term relationships with patients and their families is deeply rewarding, as it enables me to see the tangible impact of preventive care and education over time," he said.
He received his medical degree from the American University of the Caribbean – School of Medicine in Cupecoy, St. Maarten and completed his residency in family medicine at the University of Wyoming-Casper in Casper, Wyoming.
He sees patients of all ages for a spectrum of acute and chronic conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, respiratory infections, gastrointestinal disturbances and musculoskeletal injuries. Preventive care is a significant part of his practice, focusing on immunizations, health screenings and risk factor modification to prevent the onset of disease.
He focuses on patient-centered care, emphasizing the importance of understanding each patient's unique circumstances and health goals.
“I believe in building strong, trust-based relationships with my patients, which are crucial for effective communication and collaborative decision-making," he said. “Furthermore, I advocate for a holistic approach that considers all aspects of a person's health - physical, mental and social."
He strives to empower patients through education, helping them understand their conditions and the crucial role they play in managing their health.
“Seeing my patients achieve and maintain control of their chronic conditions and improve their quality of life is exceptionally rewarding," he said.
Outside of his practice, Dr. MacDonald has a range of interests that keeps him engaged and refreshed. He's an avid woodworker and enjoys taking on various DIY construction projects. He also enjoys camping, which provides valuable time to reconnect with nature and unwind from the busy pace of his professional life. An ex-rock climber, he now enjoys tree climbing. He also is a keen reader, primarily of non-fiction and science. Most importantly, he cherishes time with his wife and three children, who bring joy and balance to his life.
