Dr. Demet Gokalp Yasar joined Marshfield Clinic Health System in 2015 to provide complete cancer care for people in the Northwoods. Her professional interests include research on breast cancer and leukemia, which she completed during her residency and fellowship training.
"I chose to come to the Northwoods area because it provides exceptional indoor and outdoor activities," said Dr. Gokalp Yasar. "I wanted to raise my family in a friendly and kindhearted community."
She joined Marshfield Clinic because of their advanced clinical care and the availability of participation in research trials for patients. It is a multi-specialty clinic that provides comprehensive individualized patient care.
"I've seen and treated a wide variety of hematological and oncological diseases including rare types of cancers, working in one of the biggest and busiest hospitals in the Long Island, New York area. I have brought that experience here to help patients in Northern Wisconsin," she said.
Dr. Gokalp Yasar completed her medical degree at Hacettepe University Medical Faculty in Ankara, Turkey. She completed residencies in Internal Medicine at Gazi University Medicine Faculty Hospital in Ankara, Turkey, and also at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, Chicago Medical School, Chicago, IL. She went on to complete her Fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Hofstra North Shore, LIJ Health System in New York, NY.
"In my spare time, I enjoy painting and love the fall colors in the Northwoods area," said Dr. Gokalp Yasar. "At every opportunity, I like to do outdoor activities such as hiking, canoeing and swimming. My husband and I enjoy dancing and spending quality time with our son."
