“I like to fix things and have always been good with my hands. Orthopedics is a natural fit for me."
Dr. David C. Carlson is an orthopedic surgeon who sees patients with bone and joint issues and soft tissue injuries.
His love for medicine began when he was young. Dr. Carlson's active childhood meant he visited the doctor's office several times for stitches. That's where he fell in love with the idea of helping others.
“I was 9 years old when I made up my mind that I wanted to be a doctor," said Dr. Carlson.
Driven by a passion for surgery and helping patients young and old get back to doing what they love, Dr. Carlson treats each patient with empathy. He grew up involved in sports and the outdoors, so he understands injuries and pain that can come from living an active lifestyle. Dr. Carlson also emphasizes the importance of being open and honest with his patients.
“My philosophy for practicing medicine involves knowledge, communication and good care," he said.
Dr. Carlson earned his medical degree at the University of South Dakota-School of Medicine in Vermillion.
In his spare time, he is involved in church ministry and enjoys spending time with his wife and eight grandchildren, hunting, fishing and listening to classic rock music.
