Dr. Britney Papp, physical medicine and rehabilitation physician, sees pediatric patients with disabilities and injuries, such as neonatal injuries, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, spinal cord injuries, developmental delays and more.
Dr. Britney Papp, pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation physician, shares that she found her passion in life and is proud to have pursued this health care field.
“While I didn't know what I wanted to do in college initially, I started taking genetics classes and became very interested in different genetics syndromes, which brought me to medical school," she said. “From there, working with individuals with different disabilities became very fulfilling, which then turned into working with kids with disabilities. It fills my cup up."
Dr. Papp received her Bachelor of Science degree in Genomics and Molecular Genetics from Michigan State University. She received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and is board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation after completing a residency at Beaumont Hospital, Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. She also is fellowship trained in Pediatric Rehabilitation from the University of Michigan.
Dr. Papp sees children with disabilities and injuries, including neonatal injuries, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, genetic conditions that alter or limit function, musculoskeletal concerns, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, spasticity and more. She also can see adults with cerebral palsy, spina bifida and childhood-onset disabilities in adults.
“As the physician, I want to know who is in the room with the patient and what is most important to address at the visit. Whether it's a parent or guardian, I value their input and want to hear their concerns and why they brought their child or loved one to the visit," she said.
Dr. Papp also shares the importance of being prepared for each patient and being able to communicate effectively with family and other members of the health care team. Communication is vital.
“Many of my patients can be medically complex, so having the ability to get to know the patient and their family and discuss concerns with other members of their healthcare team is invaluable."
Outside of work, Dr. Papp enjoys camping, being outdoors, spending time on the water and time with her family.
