"I believe that the most important elements in providing patient care are to listen and remain patient centered. I always want the plan of treatment to match the patient's goals of care and what matters most to them."
Dr. Aanuoluwa Abiola, board-certified in both geriatrics and internal medicine, saw an unmet need in central Wisconsin to treat older patients. As a geriatrician, Dr. Abiola sees patients for a variety of issues including falls, worsening memory, insomnia, chronic symptoms, functional decline, medication management, goals of care discussions and general health maintenance.
"I specialized in geriatrics because I have a deep respect for older adults and enjoy the evolving complexity and diversity of older adults as they age," she said. "Additionally, geriatrics gave me the ability to focus on patient-centered goals and tailor my care, accordingly."
She envisions her geriatric practice growing and flourishing and she looks forward to providing care for older patients who need it.
"As patients age, their conditions and diseases age with them and the complexity often increases," she said. "With this, patient's goals in managing their conditions often change too. Patients want a doctor who can tailor treatment to them and their needs."
Dr. Abiola received her medical degree at Spartan Health Sciences University – School of Medicine - Vieux Fort, St. Lucia, West Indies. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and completed her fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, playing sports and traveling.
