Admission Policy

The Nuclear Medicine Technology Program at Marshfield Clinic offers two ways to enter and receive a certificate for qualification as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist. 

1. A 3+1 Baccalaureate Degree Program 

Applicants in this program must have completed at least three years of study from an affiliated university/college (University of Wisconsin - La Crosse or St. Cloud State University) in which the "clinical year" may be used as the senior year toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology.

2. Certificate Only Program 

Applicants in the program must possess a bachelor's degree in a science related field and have completed the following post-secondary course work from an accredited university/college with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale for undergraduate courses.

• Applicants must receive their bachelor's degree prior to the start of this program.
• The following required courses need to have been completed with a grade of "C" or above within the past seven years:
• Human Anatomy and Physiology with lab (two semesters or equivalent)
• General Chemistry with lab (two semesters or equivalent)
• General Physics with lab
  
• College Algebra (or higher)
• Statistics
• Oral and Written Communications
• Medical Terminology
• Recommended courses include:
• Organic Chemistry or Biochemistry
• Nuclear Chemistry
• Radiation Biology
• Quantitative Analysis
• Cross Sectional Anatomy
• Immunology

General Requirements 

All students admitted to the program are required:

• To show proof of health insurance.
• Document their current health status and immunizations.
• PPD (TB skin test).
• Lab results of rubella, rubeola, mumps, and chickenpox titers.
• Hepatitis B vaccination.
• Current diphtheria and tetanus shots.
• To be 18 years or older.
• To successfully pass a mandatory criminal background check.
• To provide verification from a physician of injury or disability requiring special accommodations.
• To be a citizen of the United States or hold a US permanent immigrant visa.  International students will need to have transcripts from outside the US evaluated by the Educational Credentials Evaluators, Inc. (ECE) prior to consideration.

Technical Standards 

All applicants must possess sufficient physical and emotional health and manual dexterity to perform the Nuclear Medicine procedures with accuracy and precision. Certain criteria have been established and must be taken into account when evaluating the applicant's ability and compatibility with the physical requirements of a Nuclear Medicine Technologist. 

Applicant must:

• Have the ability to sit or stand with reaching, twisting, and stooping for 8 hours a day.
• Have the ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Have the ability to assist in the transferring and moving of patients (300+ pounds) to and from wheelchairs, carts, beds, and imaging tables.
• Have sufficient balance to independently carry out patient care activities safely, e.g. transferring patients, carrying equipment and supplies.
• Have sensory perception, good hearing, and visual acuity, e.g., interpreting pertinent sounds from background noise, hearing conversations with physicians and patients, using telephone, discerning audible signals on camera imaging equipment, and monitoring patients during procedures.
• Possess good verbal (oral and written) and interpersonal skills, e.g., communication with patients, physicians, and co-workers.
• Possess good problem solving skills, sound judgment, and be flexible and adaptable to change.

English Proficiency Standards 

Applicants whose first language is not English must submit official TOEFL scores. Due to the technical nature of the subject matter covered in the Nuclear Medicine Technology Program curriculum and the fact that clinical rotations require the student to be able to converse effectively with patients and staff, fluency in written and spoken English is essential for success in the program and to ensure patient safety. A minimum TOEFL score of 550 is required to be considered for admission into the program. 

Application Process

Tuition Information

Bachelor’s Degree Program

Students applying the internship program towards a bachelor’s degree, pay full undergraduate tuition to the affiliated college or university.  Tuition agreements have been arranged with those schools.

Certificate Program

Tuition and Books

Tuition includes internship supplies, however, book expenses are in addition to tuition.  All dollar amounts listed below are subject to change.  Contact the Program Director for current tuition costs.

Tuition: $7,500.00

Books: $300.00 (approximation)

Advance Tuition Deposit

Upon receipt of acceptance into the program, certificate only students are required to pay a one-time, non-refundable tuition deposit of $500.  The deposit will be deducted from the total tuition.

Payment

First semester tuition is due on September 15th and second semester tuition is due on March 15th of the student’s internship year.  Statement of Accounts will be given to each student upon acceptance to the program. 

Transcripts of academic record, official grades, or certificate will not be granted to a student who has not met all financial obligations.

Financial Assistance

Students receiving a certificate only (zero hours of college credit) pay tuition directly to Marshfield Clinic.  There is no financial aid available from Marshfield Clinic.

Refunds

Tuition will not be refunded if a student resigns or is dismissed from the program.
