On May 30, Marshfield Clinic will open a new primary care center in Rhinelander. The clinic will be located on the grounds of the existing Rhinelander Dental Center, operated by Family Health Center of Marshfield, Inc., in conjunction with Marshfield Clinic, at 2260 North Shore Drive.
"Many Marshfield Clinic patients from Rhinelander and other communities travel to our clinics in Minocqua and Eagle River for primary care," said Dr. Bill Melms, regional medical director, Marshfield Clinic Health System. "We want to provide those patients an opportunity for care closer to home."
Initially it will be staffed by primary care physician Dr. Jessica Marshall, who specializes in both internal medicine and pediatrics. She will provide care for all ages. The center will include lab and radiology services.
Marshall was raised in Antigo and completed her bachelor's degree in neuroscience at University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. She then earned her medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine in Madison and was a participant in the Wisconsin Academy of Rural Medicine (WARM) program in Marshfield and Rice Lake. She completed her residencies at Marshfield Clinic and the former St. Joseph's Hospital, now called Marshfield Medical Center.
Marshall has a strong interest in community involvement. She has worked to initiate the "Reach Out and Read" program in rural primary care and volunteered for Youth Net Healthy Lifestyles as well as Camp Angel-Angel On My Shoulder. She also completed a Global Health Outreach mission trip to Isla de Ometepe in Nicaragua.
"We are very happy to have Dr. Marshall begin our services in Rhinelander," said Gail Bloch, manager, Marshfield Clinic Rhinelander Center. "She got a start in her practice at our Merrill Center and will transfer full-time now to the new Rhinelander Center. She went full circle, achieving her medical training in her home state and returning to her roots to provide health care for her neighbors, family and friends."
Marshall says she enjoys physical activity; snowshoeing, skiing, biking, hockey, yoga and kayaking. She also likes to bake, knit, fish, hunt and spend time with her family.
Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce ambassadors will have ribbon cutting 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 26, at Marshfield Clinic Rhinelander Center. The event, which features building tours and refreshments, is open to the public.
