Marshfield Clinic Health System is pleased to announce that Family Health Center of Marshfield was awarded a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) to expand access to treatment for opioid and methamphetamine addictions in areas of the state with high need for services.
"We appreciate the trust placed in us by the Department in granting us this award and want to credit our community board for prioritizing our engagement in growing treatment resources," said Greg Nycz, Executive Director of Family Health Center (FHC) of Marshfield. "We are also thankful to the Marshfield Clinic Health System for its support. This is challenging work and we look forward to collaborating with the many like-minded organizations currently making a difference in the targeted communities."
FHC plans to use the funds to further develop its regional addiction services already provided through programs supported by the HOPE Agenda. It opened the Minocqua Alcohol and Drug Recovery Center in 2017 and has plans to open additional substance abuse treatment centers in central Wisconsin.
Wisconsin health centers have a long history of partnering with the Department of Health Services to respond to urgent community health needs. Both the Legislature and the Department have dedicated significant resources to increase substance abuse services in Wisconsin. Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch and Rep. John Nygren, co-chairs of Governor Scott Walker's Task Force on Opioid Abuse, issued a report last year that recommended the creation of regional treatment centers in underserved areas of the state.
"Family Health Center of Marshfield has long been a valuable resource for the underserved population in central Wisconsin," said Dr. Narayana Murali, Marshfield Clinic Health System chief clinical strategy officer. "We know they will put this funding to good use to benefit those people in need."
