(St. Loius / Marshfield, WI) – Ascension, the nation’s largest non-profit and Catholic health system, and Marshfield Clinic Health System (MCHS), an integrated health system with one of the largest private medical group practices in Wisconsin, have signed a definitive agreement for Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, Wisconsin, to become a part of MCHS.
“Ascension and MCHS have worked diligently to ensure a smooth transition that continues to provide the personalized, compassionate care that has been a hallmark of Saint Joseph’s Hospital for more than a century,” explained Bernie Sherry, Ministry Market Executive, Ascension Wisconsin and Senior Vice President, Ascension Healthcare. “Ascension will continue to deliver faith-based personalized care to the communities we serve through our integrated system in Central and Northern Wisconsin.”
According to Dr. Susan Turney, MCHS CEO, Saint Joseph’s Hospital becoming a part of Marshfield Clinic Health System is a defining moment for the future of health care for people in Marshfield.
“The agreement signals our health system’s continued progress to treat patients in a fully-integrated health care system, combining exceptional clinical and hospital care with a renowned health plan,” said Turney. “We look forward to carrying forward the hospital’s history of providing world-class and compassionate care in Marshfield along with the Clinic’s century of fueling innovation, groundbreaking research and exemplary education.”
The Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother began their ministry in greater Marshfield over 125 years ago. MCHS also has deep roots in the region and has been committed to providing exceptional care for more than 100 years. Ascension and MCHS signed a memorandum of understanding in March 2016.
“Ascension is committed to putting the needs of our communities first, which means being responsive to the changing needs of those we serve,” stated Robert J. Henkel, FACHE, Executive Vice President, Ascension, and President and Chief Executive Officer, Ascension Healthcare, a division of Ascension. “We look forward to finalizing this agreement with Marshfield Clinic as a way of honoring that commitment.”
