PCMH is a model of health care delivery that aims to improve the quality and efficiency of care. It promotes partnerships between patients and their clinician-led care teams, resulting in improved care quality and lower costs. NCQA notes that results are producing savings for payers, purchasers and patients by avoiding unnecessary hospitalizations and emergency room visits.
"This recognition is a great tribute to the hard work and dedication of our physicians and staff, and validates the coordinated, personalized type of care that we've been providing our patients for a long time," said Dr. Kori Krueger, medical director of the Institute for Quality, Innovation and Patient Safety (IQIPS) at Marshfield Clinic.
Krueger said the Clinic's advanced information technology tools, along with adherence to patient-focused policies and procedures, play a key role in securing the highest NCQA rating. Marshfield Clinic was a pioneer in the development and use of electronic health records.
"We can't rest on our laurels," Krueger said. "In the end, the true benefit will be in helping provide a reliable, consistent experience for our patients."
The Marshfield Clinic system provides patient care, research and education in more than 50 locations in northern, central and western Wisconsin, making it one of the largest comprehensive medical systems in the United States.
