Endocrinology (Diabetes and Metabolism)

Endocrinologists treat diseases and conditions of the endocrine system.

The endocrine system consists of a set of glands.

These glands produce hormones used through out your body.

Hormones carry chemical signals that help the body’s different parts work together.

Problems with hormone production lead to health problems.

For example, low levels of insulin can lead to diabetes.

The pancreas produces insulin, which regulates blood sugar in your blood.

Insulin helps convert blood sugar (glucose) to energy you body needs.

Glands in the endocrine system include:

  • Pancreas
  • Thyroid
  • Parathyroid
  • Hypothalamus
  • Adrenal and pituitary glands
  • Ovaries and testes

Marshfield Clinic Endocrinologists also collaborate with other health care professionals on a wide variety of health problems.

This involves many other organs, which respond to, modify or metabolize hormones.

Several Endocrinologists see patients via Marshfield Clinic Telehealth services.  Learn more about telehealth >
