Dr. Yamin Soe-Htwe grew up in a family where both parents were doctors and believed she was destined to follow in their path.
“I was in New York ending my internal medicine residency and starting my pulmonary medicine fellowship when COVID-19 hit," she said. “I was working in the ICU and it clicked for me that this is where I was meant to be. I was meant to be of service for the greater good."
While she initially considered internal medicine as her specialty area, her time training in the ICU piqued her interest and she enjoyed the faster pace.
“I had cared for patients who were really ill and I had the opportunity to be part of a team who could help save them," Dr. Soe-Htwe said.
She received her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree from the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica. She completed her residency and fellowship at Harlem Hospital Center in New York and a critical care fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She is board certified in internal medicine and pulmonary medicine.
In pulmonary medicine, she sees patients for conditions including interstitial lung diseases, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). In critical care, she treats patients for a range of conditions including sepsis, respiratory failure and stroke and cardiac arrest recovery.
She works to help facilitate her patient's care while respecting their autonomy.
“My goal is to help and educate you in the best way I can to make the best decisions for your care," she said.
She's proud to be part of Marshfield Clinic Health System and to provide these important services to this community of people.
Outside of work, Dr. Soe-Htwe enjoys gardening, yoga, running and anything outdoors. Recently, she taught herself to crochet and started snowboarding, too.
