Dr. Tae Gardner's parents instilled in him at an early age to love and respect all people and pursue a life of service.
“It was a childhood dream to be the first physician in our family. As I got older, I realized I loved to solve puzzles, untie knots and fix broken things. Tackling medical problems and helping sick and injured people became my calling in life," he said.
He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. He completed an internship in general surgery and residency in diagnostic radiology at Loyola University Health System in Maywood, Illinois. He also completed a fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology at Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology in St. Louis, Missouri.
As an interventional radiologist, he treats vein and artery diseases and issues with the prostate and uterus. He also offers minimally invasive cancer treatment as an alternative or adjunct to systemic chemotherapy. He specializes in procedures including prostate and uterine artery embolization, locoregional cancer treatment (including radioembolization, chemoembolization, cryoablation and microwave ablation), venous disease treatment and kyphoplasty for vertebral body compression fractures.
“Interventional radiology is by far the coolest medical specialty. I get to work with my hands and use innovative techniques and devices to help patients from head to toe," he said. “There's so much variety in the work I do. From caring for newborns to the elderly, healthy patients to life-saving emergent procedures, there is never a dull moment."
In his field, patients often get to go home the same day and don't have to undergo general anesthesia. That was something Dr. Gardner was passionate about.
“This is an alternative to traditional surgery in the operating room," he said. “Our patients have much lower risks of complications and are back on their feet much sooner."
Dr. Gardner shares that how patients feel about their care is just as important as how excellent their care is.
“I want to provide world-class care to each patient, but also make sure they feel well taken care of and have full confidence in our team," he said.
He and his wife are from the Milwaukee area and have five active and energetic children. They made Marshfield their home in 2015 and love raising their children here.
