“I enjoy helping others navigate their health.”

Suzanne Sherman, M.D., was inspired by her own family physicians, along with her grandmothers, to enter into medicine. Her parents supported her passion by seeking advice from their family medicine providers on the best educational opportunities.

“From my earliest memories, I wanted to be a physician,” Dr. Sherman said.

With future family plans in mind, Dr. Sherman entered an internship for internal medicine. After six years in the Army, she also had interest in Occupational Medicine. By 2001, Dr. Sherman was board certified in Internal and Occupational Medicine.

“I feel very strongly about providing high quality care to workers. I have always been fascinated by industry; as such worker safety and occupational medicine have been a natural fit for me,” she said.

In Occupational Health, Dr. Sherman cares for patients requiring follow-up after work injuries like worker’s compensation, re-certification exams for commercial drivers, or pre-placement medical examinations and drug testing.

“My philosophy is regarding medicine is to treat others as I would like to be treated,” she said. “I believe it is important to treat patient with respect, provide accurate information and access to the medical system.”

She added that it is her role as a physician to help patients navigate their health and answer questions to give them an active role in their health care.

She earned her medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As mentioned, she completed her internship and residency at Brooke Army Medicine Center in Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Dr. Sherman is excited to be in Wisconsin for the cold and snowy weather. Her hobbies include health information technology, along with cooking, gardening and the study of herbal medicine.

In her free time, Dr. Sherman pursues the study of wellness, health systems operations, and health information technology as a means of improving human health.
