“I'm a great listener. I believe listening is an attitude of the heart and I have a genuine interest to listen to each and every patient I encounter daily."
Stephanie Baumann, cardiology physician assistant, shares that she was drawn to health care.
“I would find myself reading any material about medicine I could get my hands on in my free time," she said. “I wanted to find a career I could help people on a more intimate level and in cardiology I can care for patients' hearts daily."
Baumann is a Wisconsin native and received her physician assistant degree from Concordia University – Wisconsin in 2016. After graduating, she moved to North Carolina where she got her first taste in cardiology. Shortly after, she became a lead cardiology physician assistant, treating a variety of cardiologic problems, as well as assisting in both inpatient and outpatient procedures.
After nearly six years, she returned to the Midwest. Baumann treats all general cardiologic problems and specializes in heart failure and women's heart disease.
When meeting with patients, she strives to be an active listener.
“If you make listening and observation a pivotal part of your occupation, you will gain much more than you can by talking," she said. “I believe being an active listener is key in order to be a successful provider in medicine."
She also stresses that communicating clearly and summarizing core information that was discussed at the time of the appointment to the patient is important to support the patient.
Baumann enjoys spending her time outdoors hiking with her two dogs and husband as well as mountain biking. She also is a big supporter of the arts and musical performances.
