“It is important to consider an individual’s environment, family and unique strengths in every evaluation.”
Neuropsychologist Dr. Sarah Kortenkamp helps patients and their providers determine what underlies cognitive difficulties, such as those affecting attention, learning and memory.
“Every brain is different, so there is always work to do for every person we see,” she said.
Dr. Kortenkamp did not have to look far for a career role model. Her father is a psychologist, and he spurred her interest by sharing books, films and his own experiences.
In caring for patients, she takes the approach, “How would I want a member of my family to be treated?”
Dr. Kortenkamp earned her Ph.D. at the University of Florida College of Medicine, Gainesville, and completed her internship in neuropsychology at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Medical Center, New Hyde Park, New York. She completed fellowships in pediatric and adult neuropsychology at the Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals-Froedtert Hospital, Milwaukee.
She came to Marshfield Clinic in 2002, attracted by a large, multispecialty facility located in a family-oriented community. She helped to start the neuropsychology program at the Clinic’s Minocqua Center.
Dr. Kortenkamp and her husband, Kurt, have three children. She enjoys nurturing her children, running, and creating glass art and art jewelry.
