Samuel Huang, M.D., became interested in genetics during medical school because “it is the cutting edge of medicine." He explains that understanding the genetic basis of human health and disease can improve diagnosis, prevention, monitoring and treatment. “It is an exciting specialty because there are new discoveries each day that could translate to enriching lives."
“One of the best feelings in the world to see people thrive and flourish," Dr. Huang said. “I hope that the care I provide contributes in even a small way."
Because many genetic conditions are rare, Dr. Huang said, patients with these conditions can have a hard time accessing the resources and care that they need. Access can be especially challenging in rural settings. He is excited to be able to serve this area. He is available to evaluate, diagnose, treat and counsel patients with suspected and diagnosed genetic conditions.
Dr. Huang enjoys getting to know his patients and feels it is integral to providing excellent patient care. “It is important to develop a relationship and to understand their goals so that we can make decisions together," he said.
Dr. Huang grew up in Wisconsin. He earned his medical degree at University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He completed a residency in Pediatrics with Marshfield Clinic Health System. He went on to complete a residency and fellowship in Medical Genetics at the University of Washington/Seattle Children's Hospital.
Outside of work, Dr. Huang enjoys cooking, traveling, backpacking, biking and curling.
