“I value spending time with my patients
and want them to feel like they are listened
to and their problems are important.”
Dr. Paul Samundsen joined the family medicine team at Merrill Center in 2024. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army who served before attending medical school.
“I will always have a special interest in caring for veterans after caring for basic training soldiers, Cadre and active-duty soldiers, active-duty military families and retirees," said Dr. Samundsen. “I particularly enjoy listening to and learning from the experiences of WWII and Korean war veterans."
When he is with patients, Dr. Samundsen says one of his main goals is to make everyone feel comfortable.
“I don't look like a typical physician, and I strive to create a non-judgmental environment where everyone can work on their medical issues without feeling degraded or embarrassed," Dr. Samundsen said.
In his free time Dr. Samundsen enjoys spending time with his three sons Patrick, Andrew and Michael, and going to their athletic and academic activities. He also enjoys football, hockey, boating and fishing. He likes to relax with his dogs, Missi and Maddie, while sitting on the deck and watching the sunset.
