A desire to help those in need, coupled with a passion for science, drew Dr. Patrick Aquilina to the health care field.
“While I originally went into family medicine, I ultimately fell in love with cardiology and in particular, heart rhythm disorders," said Dr. Aquilina, cardiac electrophysiologist.
He received his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine and completed his residency and fellowship in Cardiology and Electrophysiology at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He sees patients for heart rhythm-related issues including atrial fibrillation and other dysrhythmias, as well as other cardiac conditions requiring devices like pacemakers and defibrillators. He particularly enjoys the more challenging patient cases.
“I enjoy being able to incorporate new treatment options and modalities, as appropriate," he said.
In his practice, Dr. Aquilina works to offer his patients comprehensive care.
“I like to individualize care based on each patient's needs and goals. I believe in using medical and interventional approaches to achieve the best patient outcomes and I enjoy following my patients over time," he said.
He also strives to explain complex problems in ways patients can understand.
“By doing this, my patients can be involved in decision-making regarding their care," he said.
Outside of work, Dr. Aquilina enjoys cooking and traveling.
