Dr. Leon McNealy specializes in using
radiation therapy, either alone or in
combination with surgery and/or
chemotherapy, or to relieve symptoms
in patients with advanced cancers.
Dr. McNealy works as part of a multidisciplinary
cancer team that also may
include surgical and medical oncologists.
The seeds for a medical career were planted
early on, when a fourth-grade classmate
died because she was unable to receive
proper medical attention. “Helping those
who are most in need is a ‘win-win,’” he
said. “I can’t imagine doing anything else.”
His philosophy on helping others translates to his approach to patients. “It’s important to strike a balance between acknowledging a critical situation, while also maintaining a sense of hope,” he said. “I try to look for the key to what makes patients tick and focus on finding what is important to them.” Having a good sense of humor, and being available to answer questions and address issues are also important to successful treatment, he said.
Dr. McNealy earned his medical degree at the University of California School of Medicine, San Francisco, where he also completed his internship and residency
in radiation oncology.
Dr. McNealy resides in Plover, Wisconsin. He enjoys traveling abroad and participating in historical work at the University of Texas.
