“I enjoy helping people learn more about their health, and how to continue living fulfilling lives, despite illness."
Julia Szmanda, doctor of osteopathic medicine, sees patients who have headaches, facial pain, seizures, stroke, tremors, numbness and tingling, weakness, speech difficulty, memory difficulty, double vision and some cases of new onset vision loss.
Dr. Szmanda has always been interested in the nervous system and enjoys using what she's learned to help people improve their lives. “The nervous system is what makes it possible for us to do the things we love, and experience the world around us every day," she said.
Listening to patients comes first for Dr. Szmanda. She takes a patient-centered approach to care and works hard for the patient. “I believe a person should be able to decide how they want to live their lives, and that includes controlling how they want to receive their medical care/treatment," she said.
She earned her doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from Rowan University - School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford, New Jersey, and completed her residency in neurology at University of Illinois - College of Medicine in Peoria.
Dr. Szmanda grew up in Wausau, and is excited to give back to the community. When she's not at work she enjoys spending time with her family, singing, hiking, skiing, baking and going to the theater.
