Jessica Barber, cardiology physician assistant, greatly enjoys getting to know the patients she cares for.

“I believe making an effort to know your patient builds a trusting patient-provider relationship," she said. “I think it is important to empower patients to let them take control of their health by providing patient education."

As a born and raised 'Yooper', Barber shares providing care in Michigan's Upper Peninsula is very important to her.

“I feel privileged to have the opportunity to serve my community and am humbled by the trust placed in me to care for others," she said. “This is the most rewarding aspect of working in medicine and why I chose to pursue a career in health care."

She received her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies degree from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.

Barber sees and treats patients for conditions such as heart disease, coronary artery disease, hypertension, heart valve concerns, heart failure, arrythmias and for symptoms such as chest pain, dizziness and peripheral edema.

Outside of work, she enjoys reading, playing the flute, hiking, biking and spending time outdoors, especially on the beaches of Lake Superior and Lake Michigan. She also enjoys spending time with friends and family, including their family pet Bichons, Louie, Walter and Arthur.
