"If a woman feels like a star on the day she gives birth, then I know I have done my job."
Certified Nurse Midwife Janis Ray worked as a NICU/PICU/Cardio-pulmonary nurse at the University of Iowa for six years before deciding to become a midwife.
“Working closely with mothers and their babies really inspired me to want to serve this special population,” Ray said. “Women are a very special group to be of service to, encourage, advocate for and teach.”
Ray provides care in low and high-risk births, family planning and contraception, annual exams, STD testing and counselling. She also has special interest in alternative birthing options like water birth.
“I have never second guessed becoming a midwife,” she said. “This profession has served me well as a compass in my life.”
