“I enjoy the excitement that comes from never knowing what my day will be like."
As an emergency medicine physician assistant, Cally Gordon knows her patients come to her with all sorts of ailments, but the variety is one of the things she loves about the specialty. Cally also realizes that she takes care of some patients on one of the worst days of their life. For that reason, she strives for connection.
“One of my goals is to ensure that patients know that I hear them and genuinely feel as though I've listened," Cally said. “I enjoy talking with them, hearing their stories and providing education whenever possible."
Cally has worked as an EMT, firefighter and paramedic. She completed the University of Wisconsin-Madison physician assistant program, before an 18-month post-graduate emergency medicine residency at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. Her experience pushes her to advocate for the field of emergency medical services.
“I'm very passionate about the advancement of EMS and fostering the relationships between in-hospital and out-of-hospital providers," Cally said.
During her spare time, Cally continues to work as a firefighter and paramedic, while also functioning with the Marathon County SWAT Tactical EMS team whenever possible. She says she likes being outdoors any time of the year, weightlifting and being entertained by her and her significant other's high-energy dogs.
